Total Control in Telemanipulation on 3D PluraView monitors presented at ARCHE 2023

Presentation of ETH Zurich at ARCHE 2023

The 3D PluraView monitor by Schneider Digital enables precise and immersive control of ANYmal, a quadruped robot. The flicker-free, daylight-compatible 3D monitor offers the operator a realistic perception of depth and a better understanding of the environment. The custom-made robot arm (DynaArm) by Robotic Systems Lab (RSL) is equipped with a force-torque sensor that provides the operator with haptic feedback. Thanks to the stereoscopic 3D display, the operator can control the robot arm with maximum precision and safety.

Orlando Grimaldi, Senior Sales Manager at Schneider Digital:

“As a medium-sized German company, we at Schneider Digital are always interested in driving technological progress. We are therefore delighted to share the progress made by the Robotic Systems Lab team at ETH Zurich. In this application, a four-legged robot is positioned to retrieve an object in a relatively confined environment. The 3D screen allows the user to not only ‘guess’ the distances between the robot and the surrounding edges, walls and objects, but to actually see them clearly as if they were there. This is paramount as a potential bomb might explode or toxic materials might be spilled upon impact with a wall or corner. We are proud that our products are being used in more and more new application areas and look forward to further developments.”

More Information

From July 10 to 14, 2023, the “Advanced Robotic Capabilities for Hazardous Environments” event, ARCHE for short, took place for the first time in Switzerland near Avully. This is a collaboration between the Swiss Drone and Robotics Centre (SDRZ) of armasuisse Science and Technology, the Genie/Rescue/ABC teaching association, and ETH Zurich. The ARCHE platform is designed to gain insights into robotic applications for the armed forces and other authorities occupied with security tasks in the field of disaster relief and ordnance disposal. Discover the revolutionary telemanipulation capabilities of the ALMA system, presented by Robotic Systems Lab at ETH Zurich at ARCHE 2023. Watch the ANYmal robot, the DynaArm, and the 3D PluraView in action. Learn how this technology is shaping the future of telemanipulation.

“We can perform complex and hazardous tasks safely and efficiently. From maintenance in nuclear reactors to inspections of power systems in the Gotthard Tunnel, the possibilities are nearly limitless.” – Firas Abi-Farraj, Robotics Researcher at ETHZ
